Kindergarten has started their Building the City Unit which is extremely hands on and fun. We spoke about various things we see in our city ie sign, skyscrapers, smaller homes, schools, libraries, light, parks, etc. We also spoke about people who help build a building and what is needed ie plumbing, electricity, architects, blueprints and more. Below the children learned that not all buildings look alike or are made from the same things. Some are tall, small, made from bricks, wood, cement and more! The children worked in small groups and used teamwork to come up with a home they designed.
Kindergarten continues to learn about the human body in our science unit. We discussed the Brain and how it controls our body. We spoke about the bone, called the skull that protects it and how wearing a helmet when we ride bikes, roller blade, scooter, etc. protects it as well and is extremely important. Below the children are doing a project to put into their science notebooks.
Kindergarten is learning how to add. We started off with visuals. Below the children step on a number ladder and having them begin on one number and asking them add. For example start on the number 2 and add 3 more, they land on 5.
Below the children are using manipulatives to add.
Below the children are using dry erase boards to draw visuals and figure out addition questions.
Below the children are using addition games to enforce what they are learning.
K1 and K2 along with the rest of the lower school celebrated Thanksgiving with yummy projects! Below the children decorated their own turkey cupcakes and made apple pies. It was a delicious celebration! We had so much fun!
