Label our Classroom!

The children are working on getting their sounds to paper. We played Label the Classroom! The children got a stack of post-it notes and labeled all the various things in the room. Look at the creative spelling!
By the way this is an excellent game to play at home for review!

Happy Birthday Ben!

Kindergarten celebrated Ben's birthday! The children gave Ben birthday wishes and and he gave them a special birthday bracha. We also gave tzedakah and danced the Hokey Pokey in English, Hebrew and Yiddish! Thank you to Ben's mommy for coming to celebrate with us.

Playing with Language

We are learning how to play with the letters of our names to create new words. We read the book, Andy is My Name which is about a boy who is pushing a cart with the letters of his name when he runs into other people who begin to play with the letters of his name and create new words.
Each child was given the letters to their names cut up on index cards and then given various letters to create new words. See below at how we played with our names.

Counting by 10's and 5's

In our math unit we are learning to count by 10's and 5's. To demonstrate counting by 5's, we pretended we were baseball players. When they come out at a game, they high five their teammates. Each child held out their hand as one student ran past, giving high fives, counting by 5's.
Below are centers to review all we have learned!

Below the children received cups and had the choice of filling their cups with either 10 objects or 5. Morah then came around and each child told me what they were choosing to count by and then proceeded to do so. So for example they put 10 marbles in a cup, 10 pennies in another and 10 paper clips in another cup, that's 30.

Below Morah demonstrated using a 100's board to count by 5's and 10's. The children did the same using markers and unfix cubes on their own charts.

Below the children made a train of tens using cubes. Then practiced counting by tens out loud.

The children rolled a piece and whichever number they landed on, on my ladder was the number they had to count by 10's until.

Happy Birthday Abigail!

Kindergarten celebrated Abigail's birthday! The children helped make the birthday cake, gave Abigail birthday wishes and gave tzedakah. Abigail sang a few songs for her friends and gave them a special birthday bracha. Thank you to Abigail's mommy for coming to celebrate with us.

Counting By Tens!

Kindergarten is learning how to count by 10's. We are using a chart in the class to count up to the 100th day of school. We are at the 37th day! This has given us an early jump on this unit. Morah demonstrated the difference between teen numbers and counting by tens. They know that a bundle of ten straws tied together and one next to it will be 11, however two bundles of ten straws will be 20.
Below the children are jumping our tens ladder. They jump as they count by tens. We even started placing the numbers in order and then jump!
We also continue to practice counting and writing our numbers.
