Tu B'shevat Holiday - The New Years for the Trees
At Mazel Day School we had a very festive celebration for Tu B'shevat (the 15th day of the hebrew month, Shevat) the New Years for the trees.
Morah Mushka taught the children different hebrew songs all about Tu B'shevat and the different parts of a tree in hebrew. The Yiladim had a great time singing and playing different games/activities with the picture cards Morah Mushka brought in that were all the different parts of a tree!
Parts of a tree in hebrew:
Roots- Shorashim
Trunk- Gezah
Branches- Anafim
Leaves- Alim
Fruit- Perot
Flowers- Perachim
Tree- Eitz
The Yiladim built their very own Tu B'shevat tree with their very own handmade fruit "growing" from the tree!

Thank you to Morah Yehudis and the Middle School for preparing a wonderful Tu B'shevat festival for us!
The children got to taste almost every one of the seven special foods of Israel (figs, dates, wheat, barley, olives, grapes, and pomegranate). The children were given riddles of each of the foods and when they guessed it correctly they got to taste that food. All of the foods were delicious:)
A Tu B'Shevat tree made out of cupcakes and different types of the seven special foods of Israel:
The children, in their beautifully colored hats of the different special seven foods of Israel, performed one of their Tu B'Shevat songs in hebrew for the whole school.
For Snack on Tu B'Shevat we got to try some exotic and "new" fruits! On "new" fruits, which we have not eaten the entire year, we say a special beracha: "Baruch Ata Ado-nai Elo-hei-nu Melech Haolam Shehecheyanu V'kiyamanu V'higiyanu L'ziman Hazeh." - "..... Who has granted us life, sustained us, and has enabled us to reach this time."
Thank you to the parents who sent in fruits/ exotic fruits for the entire class!:)
It really added to our special Tu B'Shevat celebration!
